Since I was reprimanded in Subway today for not keeping up with my resolution, I figured I would post something... Did you know that you are not supposed to eat lunch meat when you are pregnant? I put this in the super paranoid area of things to avoid - but I have tried to eat less. Supposedly you can get Listeria if it is not heated to steaming. I got my sandwich toasted, think that counts?

Not a lot going on around here - other than work, work, WORK! Justin has been working lots of overtime (no complaints) and my job keeps me busy as usual. By the time I get home I am ready to get into bed and close my eyes! Luckily my sweet husband has done a lot of cooking - aka picking up - of food. He's such a good sport.. mostly.

Nugget continues to grow. I haven't felt much, but this week have started to notice really faint things that COULD be the nug. We bought a fetal heart rate doppler, but haven't really had much luck with it yet. Of course, I have no idea what I am doing and have tried for a total of about 2 minutes. Hopefully as nuglet gets a little bigger it will be easier.

On a side note, EVERYONE needs a Tempurpedic bed. Justin's parents gave us ours and it is the best thing ever. I can lay my whiny butt in it and have nothing to complain about... now THAT is a serious compliment!

Back-Story

I am enjoying my day off - watching Hoarders and eating puffy cheetos. Thought I would share a little of the "backstory" of the nugget.

Thanksgiving - November 26, 2009.
I am 5 weeks pregnant but have no clue. I have a MELTDOWN trying to get dressed for Thanksgiving dinner at my Grandparents house.
I feel crappy while there and eat hardly any of the wonderful food. Figure I am getting sick or something. Take family photos and go home to go to sleep.

The next day we wake up EARLY to go shopping for Black Friday. I love Black Friday. I made it to like 3 stores and was so exhausted that we had to go home. Stopped for sushi on the way - threw up in the restaurant bathroom.
Friday, November 27 - continued.
We stop at walmart to pick up some frozen pizzas and I secretly buy a pregnancy test - just in case. When we get home, Justin puts the pizzas in the oven and I sneakily take the prenancy test, fully expecting it to be negative. About 5 seconds later there are so many lines on that thing that I have no idea what to do. I frantically read the instructions, but nowhere does it inform you what a positive and negative result are. Finally, I find a picture on the back. Plus sign means positive, imagine that. I have no idea what to do and call my good friend, Karla, hyperventilating. She says it would probably be a good idea to tell Justin and by the way congrats.

I told Justin, he was excited, and then went to buy a wider variety of tests "just to be sure". After peeing on what felt like countless sticks, this was the result. 10 Positive tests. I figured that was enough to be sure. We decided not to tell anyone else until we went to the doctor to confirm and make sure everything was going the way it should be.

I went to the doctor to have things "confirmed" (peeing on another stick) and then made my appointment for 12 WEEKS!! We knew we couldn't wait that long to tell our families, so we decided to tell them both at Christmas.

These were both taken when I was about 7 weeks.

We told both of our families at Christmas and everyone was really excited and very sweet.

Hayden and I. 9 weeksish.

So far, things have been great. I had a lot of morning sickness until I got to about 11 weeks. Since then I've felt like a new woman! I'm still tired, but I'll take tired over spending so much quality time with my toilet. We are so freaking excited and terrified at the same time. I really like my Doctor, and that makes me really happy. I'm really glad that I no longer have to keep the nugget a secret. I am now 13 weeks and my estimated due date is July 27th. One day after our 2 yr anniversary, and the day before my niece's 6th birthday.

On a side note, Hoarders is the most disgusting show I have ever seen. There is also an old man picking pecans in my front yard and Tosca is going crazy.

I have no idea how I started reading this blog. Mckmama (Jennifer) has 4 kids that are extremely close in age. Her youngest son, Stellan, was diagnosed with SVT (a heart condition where your heart beats extremely fast) in utero. Doctors did not think he would survive, but he was born healthy. His SVT returned shortly after and he nearly lost his battle. 2 last-ditch surgeries (ablations) were done on his heart, but doctors did not think they would work. The second one was completely successful and Stellan has been completely healthy since then.

Once again, I started reading to keep up with Stellan - but after reading past posts I was totally hooked. I am such a hippie and I really enjoy reading about other people who are in to natural living/sustainable resources and such. She also is a photographer and has some cool photoshop and camera how to's.

Kelly's Korner
I originally found this blog through Mckmama's blog... I think. Kelly was expecting a totally healthy, full term baby, and Harper was born with severe respiratory issues. She wasn't expected to make it, but came out totally fine. I started reading this to keep up with Harper's health, but got totally addicted. Kelly seems so sweet and has really cute recipe and decorating ideas - plus Harper is adorable!

Jonah
Baby Jonah has a genetic skin condition called EB. Anytime anything causes friction against his skin he gets a painful blister. I had no idea this disease even existed, and I really feel for this family. There is little to no research on EB so I hope her blog starts to get the word out about it. No child deserves to be sick!

Woot
I love Woot! They have a "daily deal" every day - usually electronicsesque - that is priced very cheap. Sometimes they have a "woot-off" where they put up a new item everytime an old item sells out - usually very quickly. If you are really lucky you can score a bag-of-crap. These sell out within seconds and usually crash the website. They have been known to include HD TV's, DVD players, laptops, etc..

I found this site from Aleesa. Everything looks delicious.. maybe someday I will actually attempt to make something from there.

Dooce
HILARIOUS! If you don't mind a little foul language and insensitive humor this site is for you. It's a pseudo "mommy blog" but has other stuff too. She now has two books out and writes about all sorts of crazy stuff. Check this one out for sure!

Anybody who knows me knows how obsessed I am with pop culture. Most of my vast knowledge base comes from Perez Hilton - the best trashy celebrity gossip site there is!

It's a lazy Sunday here at our house. Justin is playing Super Mario brothers on the wii, and Tosca and I are cleaning house and napping. I just got back from an overnight trip with the Junior High region band kids. It was a fun trip, but I was definitely ready to be home! This is my sad attempt at keeping up with my two blogs a week self-imposed quota. Hopefully I will have something exciting to post about soon!

An open letter to SuddenLink communications

Dear SuddenLink,

Your current marketing campaign focuses on the slogan, "SuddenLink, you're connected". It's very catchy indeed. My problems with this slogan are three-fold (more like 29-fold, but no time for that).

1. Webster's defines sudden as - happening, coming, made, or done quickly, without warning, or unexpectedly: a sudden attack. Nothing about your service or product is done in a 'sudden' manner. After your service was ordered we had a near 2 week wait time for installation. I patiently waited for the installer to arrive between 10-4. He arrived at 6:15. After installation, our internet did not work for a week. On a side-note, the gentleman that installed our cable smelled like cigarette butts soaked in vodka. Our internet moves at approximately 3 miles in hour. Definitely not 'sudden', definitely annoying.

2. YOU STILL HAVE NO HD CHANNELS. This really requires no further explanation. Except, WHY DID WE BUY AN HD TV??

3. Since the inception of DVR I have lusted after it. While a poor college student, I subsisted off of free "basic" cable. I simply spent time with those who had this new-fangled contraption. After graduating from college and receiving my first "big girl" job, I knew what one of my first purchases would be. Digital Cable and DVR. I call up our "local" cable office and go through the entire order process. I am told my account was being finalized, please stay on the line. Sure, I thought, no problem - anything for DVR! A few moments later Ron returns to the link to inform me that he is so very sorry, it appears that DVR is not yet available in our area.

WHAT?

Wait a minute, Ron. I thought you were speaking to me from down the street at my "local" office? Wouldn't you have known we didn't have DVR here in the thriving metropolis of Brenham?

Fast forward nearly a year. A postcard comes in the mail, boldly proclaiming - "DVR is here! The wait is over! Call and sign up today!". Of course, I immediately force Justin to call the "local" office, unable to contain my excitement. He leaves the room for a moment and comes back in.

"Yeah, they don't have it."

ugh.

In conclusion suddenlink, since we have no other option but to stick with you as our cable and internet provider, we have welcomed a new member to our little family. I have a feeling we will be very happy together.

Welcome, TIVo. We're happy to have you.

We just returned from 5 days in Port Aransas for the inaugural Seeker Family Vacation! Yes, this is the same place that the band went in the spring. This time, however, the activities were slightly different. We had lots of family bonding time and lots of fun at the many pools and the beach. I have been happily summering away. Sleeping until noon, watching Golden Girls marathons, renting entire TV seasons from Net-Flix and making $600 at a garage sale. That's right. 600 DOLLARS. It did not come easy, however. I toiled away for an entire week, meticulously arranging all of my treasures and labeling them with tender love and care. Luckily I had some good company to ~~drink wine and swim with~~ help me organize and price all of my ~~crap~~ treasures. I really wish I would have taken pictures this monstrosity of a garage sale. If it wouldn't have been 1/4 my own stuff, I would have been in shopping heaven! Unfortunately, I promised myself not to bring anything home with me and had to leave empty handed. The other 3 ladies made a killing too, I can't wait to do it again!

I made these for a band student who graduated this year. I have made a lot of other stuff lately, but have been way too lazy to take pictures!

And, alas, a sneak preview of my craft palace. I want to do an entire post and show the embarrassing before and after pictures, but for now this will have to do. Justin made the entire thing for me. It's made of cabinets and kitchen laminate. This picture is before it was painted and had hardware on. I love it. I'm pretty sure it's the world's most amazing thing! Tosca also enjoys laying on the ground and staring at me while I work in there.

I have a ton of things that I need to post about, but I have pictures that need to be uploaded with all of those things so it is not going to happen tonight! Expect future posts on these subjects -

Although I do know how to make my own blog header and background, I apparently do not know how to get my stupid header to center on the page! It's very frustrating!

In extremely big news - I have purchased the domain name www.sostickingcute.com. I have yet to do absolutely anything in terms of creating a website (since I have no idea where to even begin) but at least I have a name?

I have also weaseled my way in to a garage sale this coming weekend and am hoping I can make some money off of random assorted crap that I have found laying around our house. I may or may not be selling a broken bike, 2 laundry baskets worth of t-shirts, Justin's childhood golf clubs, an 8 foot pink furry gorilla, and lots of furniture that I never actually paid for. Sounds like some good stuff to me!

Well, I am off to watch some more television series that were cancelled after 2 seasons on Netflix. It's extremely addicting. I will return with pictures soon. Maybe.

Un-crafty projects.

These are some teacher gifts I made for the end of school. I bought the pots from Ikea. These were totally Karla's idea, but I went a little overboard (as usual). I didn't get pictures of all of them or pictures of the completed project with cute stuff in them either.

It's really difficult to get the vinyl straight on a curved surface. I also have a hard time deciding how big I want the letters. I am definitely learning as I go.

These are galvanized tubs that are currently growing lettuce. They could have a family name, the name of something growing in it, quotes, pictures - basically whatever on them. I've seen people use these to ice down drinks, as a chip basket, and all sorts of other stuff.

And finally - I needed a new water bottle for summer band and I hate not being able to easily locate MY water bottle and then accidentally end up drinking some kid's water! So I put my initials on my water bottle. No excuse for somebody "not knowing" that wasn't theirs!

Life has been hectic as well as boring lately. I am constantly surprised by how much there is to get done at the end of the year. There have been tons of concerts, camps, tryouts, and crazy schedules. It's also hard to believe that I have survived an entire year of school. There are moments when I wonder what I have gotten myself into, and then moments when I am so incredibly proud of our students and what they have accomplished. I am very lucky in that I truly love what I do. Very seldom does it seem like work, although it is overwhelming at times.

We had a busy weekend as usual. Justin and I traveled to Arlington to visit his parents. It's really sad how little we have been there this year. We had a great time, got some shopping done, and spent some time with the whole Colley clan- minus Brandon, of course, who is still in the big sandbox. Today, several students were playing at a local memorial day program. My dad was the "master of ceremonies" and the kids played great. I will try and get a few pictures of that up later. Justin and I took Riley and Hayden to swim at my friend Robyn's house and had a great time. Unfortunately both of us have gotten matching memorial day sunburns! I have several uncrafty projects in the works lately that need to be posted - someday I will catch up! Oh wait, someday is only about a week away! COME ON SUMMER!!

Apologies for the pictureless, boring post - I must run on to watch Jon & Kate plus 8. I am completely disgusted by the entire situation but I just cannot turn away from it.

HUMMUS AMONGUS!

Today I wanted Hummus. Like really, really wanted hummus. The only store in town that has said hummus is HEB, and it is not good. I figured it couldn't be too difficult to make my own and according to the recipe I found online, the only ingredient I was lacking was Tahini. According to the website, Tahini (sesame seed paste) is readily available at nearly all major grocery stores. I guess they forgot to add the.. unless you like in Brenham, Tx clause to that. There was no Tahini to be found at HEB or Wal-mart. I really wanted Hummus - really, really wanted hummus. I looked up a Tahini recipe via my i-phone at walmart and bought the necessary 4 cups of sesame seeds to make it. I ended up with enough Tahini to make approximately 40 batches of Hummus. It's a good things I really, really, like it.

According to my scale this morning, I have lost exactly 30.0 pounds. That is crazy to even think about! I have changed my eating habits so drastically that I felt the need to post pictures of a usual dinner!
If you read MckMama's blog, you know she calls this woodland creature food. I call it world's best dinner. I heart woodland creature food. I also think laughing cow cheese is the best thing ever. I have to wedges to eat on crackers, babybel light to take with me for lunch, and those tiny foil wrapped cubes that are completely delicious and only 25 calories! I pretty much dipped all of this in hummus. Well, except for the blackberries. Ok, maybe I just tried it out.

I forgot to talk about this in the last post. I made this for my sister as a house warming gift. I also ordered some pink vinyl! Woo! Pretty big excitement!

This week and weekend has flown by in a whirlwind! Justin and I celebrated our birthdays last weekend by purchasing a Canon Digital Rebel XSI. It is an "entry level digital SLR". Basically, this thing has more buttons and functions than the first space shuttle. I am no photographer, but I love taking pictures with it. We hung out with my family and celebrated mother's day for most of this weekend. Cory gave me a few lessons on taking pictures with my fancy new camera, as well as editing them in photoshop.

Last week I made a batch of Leukemia Awareness stickers with Riley's name on them.
This was my first time layering 2 colors of vinyl, and they actually turned out pretty good! Riley is kicking cancer's hiney, and now everyone will know! If you see this massive vehicle driving around, be sure and honk!
Speaking of my favorite princess, this weekend was maifest, and riley was the cutest cherry sundae topping I have ever seen! It seems like yesterday I was in the maifest, draped in gold lame and red velvet. My mom would tease my hair up real big and put some serious lip liner on me. I will have to find some photos of that!

The High School band marched in the Junior parade on Friday morning and it was HOT. Here I am glad to be finishing the parade.

I hate it when people have blogs and the don't update in forever and then they have a new post talking about how busy they have been. I refuse to partake in this annoying activity. I will, however, inform you that during my absence from blogging I have not had loads of free time.

Remember how I said that adobe illustrator hates me? This has not changed during my time away where I have not had much free time. I'm pretty sure that adobe illustrator spends all of its free time plotting new ways to get on my nerves. Why is it that I learn how to do something and get it to work really well, and then the next time I try to do that it doesn't work!?!

Well, here's what I've been up to lately.
Another lady at work is working on a "Cubs/Sports" themed bathroom for her three boys. I saw these quotes somewhere and decided to use them. I wanted them to look distressedish so i downloaded this font. I think they turned out really cool. They look very boy-sportish. I spent forever getting the little basketball man to look right. I had to DRAW his basketball. That's right, I'm learning to operate my wacom tablet. I also made some quotes for her, but I can't take a picture of them until they're on the wall.

I think this is my favorite one so far. It's about 24 inches x 24 inches. I downloaded a font called ornamental frames and picked my favorite one. I opened it up in Photoshop (which doesn't hate me near as much) and messed with it until it looked how I wanted it. Unfortunately the wall where I wanted this has a really cool sand texture on it. This thing was not fun to hang. Luckily my husband still likes me.Today (my birthday) I went and hung out with my friend Robyn with hopes of swimming. It was cloudy and gross all day so I ended up cricutting. Robyn is a pretty cool mom who took her daughter to Paris for NINE DAYS! Since then her daughter has had a love for all things French. I made this Eiffel tower for her a long time ago and just now got it cut out out. It ended up almost four feet tall! It looks so cute in her room! C'est la vie means this is life, and J'adore Paris means I love Paris. The vinyl is actually grey but it looks white here. Her walls a really dark red and really pretty. I am working on a vintage looking chandelier to hang over her bed.

I also did a quote for my most favorite friend Karla's daughter's wall. She just painted her room princess pink and it is precious. I will have to get a picture of it.

Well, I think that's all for the evening. I am counting down the seconds until summer is here. I knew the end of the year was going to be really busy, but I didn't quite realize HOW busy it was going to be.

Wanted to share some cricuting fun for the evening.

I am making some car decals for my friend Robyn's daughter. She is going to be a mascot next year. I have yet to share with Robyn that I have an irrational fear of people in animal costumes. I really like her daughter, but if she comes near me in that costume I will run away while screaming like a little girl.Here I am fighting with Adobe illustrator as usual. It gets a little easier everyday, but it still hates me. Don't judge me based on my hair, it's been a long weekend - and if you read the previous post you know that my hair had a hard time.

I created the file in illustrator and then loaded it into my cricut program - Sure Cuts A Lot. First I cut out a "proof" of sorts - out of black card stock.

Here is what the sticker will eventually look like.

Finally an almost "cub" green vinyl.

I have a really good helper who spent many years applying decals to cars and trucks. He is really good with an exacto knife.

Here is the finished product - through transfer tape unfortunately. I will try and get a picture when it is actually on the car. It looks like two different color background because the different vinyls have different backings. The vinyl comes off of the backing and it will all look the same.

A Non-Crafty Post

We have returned safely from Port Aransas! Here are a few highlights from our trip.

1. While eating a catered dinner on our first evening there, a seagull pooped on my silverware.
2. While "resting my eyes" the next morning by the pool, a seemingly sick seagull pooped on my hair.
3. Lots of time in the hot tub(s).
4. A sweet sunburn even though I wore sunscreen.
5. Being cajoled into going in the very rough ocean and getting the crap beaten out of me by waves.
6. Lots of fun with good kids, great parents, and pretty awesome coworkers. Oh, and husband.
7. My i-phone and cadillac breaking while there.....

Well I made myself a background and header and now I have screwed my layout up! I have no idea how to fix it. Anybody in the blog world (that actually reads my blog...) know how to re-center my layout?

I think I am done photoshopping for a while. It was an unplanned diversion that has been fun, but three blog headers later I am a little tired of it.

So I made this header for Karla, but once again when I save it as a .gif to be able to load it throws the colors all off. Does anybody know how to fix that?

Well, hopefully she likes it. I'm getting a little addicted to photoshop. It is SO much easier than illustrator.

I wish I knew a little more about computers

I can't believe that I am actually learning how to operate photoshop. I made this blog header for my friend aleesa's blog. I don't know if she will put it up, but I had fun making it! I really know nothing about making web images, so when I saved it some of the colors got off a little bit.

As usual I will be up at school until pretty late tonight. It's a good thing I like my job! The JH honors band is performing their UIL program tonight at the high school. They have UIL this Saturday and will do great I am sure!

Just wanted to post a few tiny tidbits of what I've been doing so far. First up is my VERY FIRST cricut project. I didn't really have any idea what I was doing. My parents also had no idea they would come home to this on their wall. Luckily they are good sports and (pretended that they) liked it. The font is Scriptina and it is black vinyl.

Next up, I made my mom this car sticker. She is very proud of the whole Nana thing. I think this turned out pretty cute. It's not nearly as giant as it looks - it's about 3 inches tall and 5 inches tall. The font is Grenouille with Circle Things dingbat flowers - outdoor white vinyl.
My husband does not come along with this sticker.

Well.. here it is!

My name is Shelby and I am a blog lurker. You know all those hits you get on your site meter and wonder where they came from because there are no comments? Yep, it was me. Not just one a day either - 2,3, sometimes 7. I can't help it.

I won't kid myself and say I'll give it up, so here is my repentance. I've gone and done it.. started my own blog. I even (gasp) designed my own (double gasp) header. My illustrator skills do not yet encompass entire layouts, but maybe I will get there someday.

I long debated over what my blog should be about... I went through all the usual topics:
Children - don't have those. Cooking advice - open freezer, remove desired entree, place in microwave... Reality TV - boo to jason, yes to melissa. The elimination of these topics left few choices, so I have thus settled on talking about my lifelong obsession with being CRAFTY.

I am not creative, nor artistic. I cannot draw, paint, photograph or otherwise create art. Therefore I have filled this void with acquiring and refinishing ridiculous amounts of furniture, scrapbooking profusely, painting any wall in my reach, making picture frames, and even a small stint attempting to make my own clothing. This has all led to my newest obession. MY CRICUT.
I can cut paper, vinyl, cardboard, fabric and all sorts of things. The possibilities are endless and I can't wait to learn how to really use it! In the meantime I am learning how to use Adobe Illustrator , and downloading an obscene amount of fonts. I plan to post my Cricut creations here on the handle 'ole blog, as well as a few boring day to day entries. Stay tuned!
